Safeguarding Information

"Safeguarding" is about protecting children, young people and adults at risk from emotional, physical and sexual abuse or neglect. It also means helping children to grow up into confident, happy and healthy adults.

Most children enjoy generally happy childhood experiences within their own family. Unfortunately for some, this is not the case. During difficult family times, everyone who knows the child must do the best they can to protect them from future harm.

You could be a neighbour, friend, relative, child minder, teacher or doctor, or working for any organisation which has contact with children and young people. Protecting children is everyone's responsibility.

If you should need help as a parent you should talk to a teacher, health visitor or doctor to find out what's available. They will be able to put you in touch with someone who can help.

If you are concerned about a child or young person, do not ignore these concerns, please call the telephone numbers below or contact us:

SAFEGUARDING INFORMATION SESSION

Safeguarding is a term which is broader than ‘child protection’ and relates to the action taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Safeguarding is defined in Working together to safeguard children 2013 as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment
  • preventing impairment of children’s health and development
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care and
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

If you would like to learn more, we are going to hold Safeguarding information sessions at the Children’s Centre in the future. Please register your interest on 01572 758 383 or email: visions@rutland.gov.uk and we will take your details and let you know when the next session is being held. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide creche facilities for these sessions.
